Home Visits
Why does STAR perform a home visit?
When a rescue takes on the commitment of a dog, it’s a huge responsibility. Finding it the right fit for a forever home is part of that responsibility. The home visit is intended to support the adoptive family and to help ensure that this will be the right match and that you and your new dog live happily ever after!
When are home visits performed?
Home visits are performed after an adoption or foster application is received. once your application has been received by our Adoptions coordinator, a home visit volunteer will contact you to coordinate a brief home visit to ensure your house is safe and happy home.
Who must attend the home visit?
All family members residing at the residence must attend the home visit. Exceptions are made for college students living away from home
How Long does a home visit take?
Most home visits take between 15- 30 minutes and include a tour of your home and yard. The home visit is a painless process. We understand that people may be nervous about a home visit. Relax – we are not there to judge your home décor or color scheme :) The home visit volunteer won’t open your drawers or run a white-gloved finger over your baseboards. This home visit is to help ensure that the adoption is going to be successful. The best way to do this is by having an in-house conversation, as well as a pair of trained eyes that will help you eliminate any potential problems around your house and yard.
